Senior Elementary Class - News & Events

We are pleased to welcome back Gina McMurchy-Barber and Susan Brooks as the Senior Elementary Guides.  Gina has been teaching students in the Montessori classroom for over 17 Years.  She has taught students in Vancouver at the Vancouver Montessori School as well as in Surrey at Roots and Wings Montessori School.  This year's Senior Elementary class will be made up of our Year Four, Five, Six and Seven students.

Students should bring the following items to keep in the classroom on the first day of school:

• a plant of their choice
• a pair of indoor shoes with non-marking soles (preferably gym runners)
• a recent photo of themselves
• a toothbrush and toothpaste in a cup labeled with their name

In addition to math, language and physical education, some of the topics that the students can look forward to studying are:

• solar system
• First Nations people of Canada
• plant structures and vital functions of animals

• Canada and its natural geography
• prehistoric man
• the cosmic task of plants

• plate tectonics
• weather
• Canadian history
• chemistry

Many of these cultural themes will incorporate both field trips and artistic expression.

We are so excited that our Elementary students will be going camping from September 8 to 10.  They will have an opportunity to participate in activities such as canoeing, day hikes, low ropes courses and natural history studies which will help them to discover a sense of their own self, grow physically and emotionally and build a strong support group with their peers for the upcoming year.
