Elementary

The Children of Integrity Montessori Elementary classrooms are organized around the childs developmental stages and divided into 3 year age groupings. Their environment is the 'backdrop', with the child as the initiator of his/her own educational experience.

(Developmental phase age 6 - 9)

Children in this age group display an increased awareness of the world and an interest in its wonders. The child is presented with an over-view of the inter-relatedness of things, the development of the universe, solar system, life on earth and civilization. The 'World View' gained from this approach gives the child a framework into which all knowledge may be related and an understanding of their personal role in the world. Beginning with concrete materials and working toward the more abstract. Concepts are introduced through hands-on materials that encourage and engage the child assisting in an understanding of concepts before they are committed to memory. Math materials move from the concrete to the more abstract and a guided discovery of geometry leads the student to discover formulas and theorems. Language emphasizes creative writing, spelling, correct expression and grammatical form. Biology studies include zoology and botany giving the student an understanding of their position and relationship within the world.
